Opened in September 1973, Bonanza Casino is a locals’ favorite in Reno, NV. This film-friendly casino has been used as a filming location in several music videos and film projects, some of which include The Muppets and Mr. Invincible.
The casino’s marquee is what initially caught the attention of The Muppets‘ production team (source). The Moopets, a Muppet tribute band, headlined at the Bonanza Casino (renamed to the Pechoolo Casino for the film), and the marquee was used to advertise their performances (image). In the movie, Fozzie Bear and the Moopets perform a song used to highlight the casino’s features, such as great deals on hotel rooms, free parking for cars, and a 24-hour wedding chapel.
