Great Basin Brewing Company is not only Nevada’s oldest currently operating brewery, it is also the state’s largest and most award-winning brewery. Opened in 1993 by Tom Young and his wife Bonda, Great Basin Brewing Company is headquartered in Sparks, NV and features a bar, restaurant, dog-friendly outdoor dining, and an outdoor music venue and stage with free concerts.

Tom faced many hurdles in attempting to start Great Basin Brewing Company, including laws that prohibited the production of beer and few banks willing to issue loans because they did not believe that beer would be popular. Nevertheless, Tom fought for his dream and helped to get legislation passed that allowed beer production.

The success of Great Basin Brewing Company led to a second location opening in Reno in July 2010, and following that, Tom opened Taps & Tanks in 2012, a production facility and taproom.

Today, Great Basin widely distributes its beer to more than 400 locations in Northern Nevada and surrounding regions, has won numerous awards at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup, and is being acquired by Mammoth Brewing Company to increase the potential for sales from 15,000 barrels of beer to 40,000 barrels a year (learn more).
