Jean Dry Lake Bed is a small dry lake located just 3 miles east of Jean, NV and I-15. It is an endorheic dry lake, which means that any water that falls within it does not flow out to other bodies of water like rivers or oceans. Water loss occurs mainly due to solar evaporation and seepage.
Jean Dry Lake Bed is a popular destination for off-road racing as well as commercial photo shoots and major feature films. The flat ground amplifies shadows, helping to create a dramatic summertime look.
Currently, Jean Dry Lake Bed is the location of Seven Magic Mountains, a two-year art exhibit featuring seven brightly colored boulders.

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
Filming at Jean Dry Lake Bed for the Mint 400 off-road race was scheduled to take place over the course of a few days. However, rain interfered with the type of shot the production team wanted to get so they had to “bring in a jet engine mounted on a truck and sacks of Fuller’s earth to create the dust necessary to make the scene effective.” (Source)
