Location Spotlight: Pioneer Center

Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA) is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 cultural organization located in downtown Reno, NV. It is the largest public performing arts facility in Northern Nevada, and its mission is to facilitate and present the highest quality performing arts in Northern Nevada.

Completed in 1968, the Pioneer Center is a well-known and valuable community resource. This 1500-seat venue hosts more than a hundred events each year, from dance recitals to Broadway productions, opera and ballet events, symphonies, TEDx talks, and more. The center has 987 seats on the main level and 513 seats in the balcony area. It is also home to the largest performing arts organization in Northern Nevada, the Reno Philharmonic (source).

Featuring the only example of a gold-anodized geodesic dome, the Pioneer Center is listed on the Nevada State Register of Historic Places as well as the National Register of Historic Places. Although some historians would categorize this unique design in the mid-century Populuxe architecture category, it is actually in a class all by itself (source).
