Red’s Ranch is a working ranch that caters to professional and corporate events as well as on-location filming, commercial photo shoots, and more. It is located at the base of the rugged Ruby Mountains in the Northeast Nevada town of Lamoille and sits on more than 100 acres. The snowmelt from the Ruby Mountains, which is also referred to as America’s Swiss Alps or Nevada’s Yosemite because of its dramatic landscape, is the source of the crystal clear water that runs through the man-made streams and ditches used to irrigate and produce lush fruit orchards.
The Ranch consists of a luxury 10-bedroom, 11,000 sq. ft. lodge, a detached pool and guest house, and a conference center housed in a barn along with many other outbuildings and paddocks for agricultural activities, spacious decks and porches, and beautifully maintained pastures and lawns against a majestic alpine background.
Red’s Ranch also offers many customized services and experience options, including:
- Concierge, culinary, and housekeeping services
- Carefully curated outdoor adventure activities
- Intimate locations along intricate pathways for special occasions, like a marriage proposal or private wedding ceremony
- Regionally inspired gourmet cuisine for large parties using farm-fresh ingredients, fresh seafood which arrives daily, and herbs and produce grown in local gardens
- And so much more!
With year-round recreational activities, spring and summer are the best times to enjoy the gorgeous outdoor scenery with hiking, fishing, hunting, and riding. In the autumn, Red’s Ranch offers a variety of relaxing entertainment options, such as a massage followed by a cozy fire or a nice dip in a heated pool. Winter features an incredible Ruby Mountains Heli-Experience.
Fun Fact: The Ruby Mountains are currently at 145+% of average snowfall to date, which is one of the highest above average snowfall totals in the entire Western U.S. – Source

Filmography
The 2004 Playing It Straight reality television series was filmed on location at Red’s Ranch. Co-created by former Nevada resident and Emmy award winning producer/director Kim MacQuarrie and his girlfriend Ciara Byrne, the idea for the series was conceived in just five days and bought by Fox ten days after its submission.
Playing It Straight is a twist on the classic reality dating show, as a 21-year-old small-town girl from Wisconsin is told that some of her suitors are gay, and if she chooses a straight man in the end, they will split $1 million, but if she chooses a gay man, he will win the $1 million and she will get nothing.
Designed to fit the filming location of Red’s Ranch, the show offers some fun and comedy as the guys are all asked to learn how to do things they have never done before, such as ride horses, rope cows, and more.
You can read more about the creation of the show on the Elko Daily Free Press website.
