Originally constructed for use as a millpond for a timber company, Spooner Lake is a man-made reservoir located in Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park. It covers approximately 78 surface acres and has a depth of nearly 20 feet at maximum capacity.
Spooner Lake offers a tranquil experience for nature-lovers who enjoy bird watching, fishing, camping, hiking, exploring, and studying wildflowers and trees.
There are some backcountry cabins that include basic amenities such as composting toilets, beds, cook stoves, and wood burning stoves. Benches and picnic areas encircling the lake also provide some pleasant, family-friendly outdoor settings.
