Valley of Fire State Park is the oldest and largest state park in Nevada. Located just 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas, the 42,059-acre park was dedicated in 1935 and derives its name from red sandstone formations that appear to be on fire when they reflect the sun’s rays.

Valley of Fire has a rich history with well-preserved historic artifacts, such as areas of petrified wood and 3,000-year-old petroglyphs (rock art). The red sandstone formations the state park was named after were also formed from shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs.
