What Is A Duvetyne?

A duvetyne (also spelled duvetyn) is a heavy black fabric with a nap on one side used to block out light. It is flame retardant, making it safe to use around hot lights.

Also known as “commando cloth” on the East Coast, duvetyne provides complete light loss and serves many purposes including blacking out windows, concealing cables, protecting equipment, hiding reflections, controlling spill light, and more. It is also used to create flags, cutters, and solid butterflies.

Fun Fact: The shots of space in the original Star Trek series were created by gluing glitter onto duvetyne.

Duvetyne can be ripped in a straight line, which makes it easy to size on site.
