What Does A Line Producer Do?

Typically hired during pre-production, a line producer is responsible for breaking down a script to estimate the cost and approximate timeline of a production based on the various resources needed to accomplish each scene. These resources include specific filming locations, crew members, equipment rentals, and any other necessary services. Once a provisional budget and shooting schedule has been created, financing can be secured for the production.

After financing is secured, line producers hire the production team, scout locations, negotiate with vendors, and oversee insurance requirements. During production, they monitor day-to-day activities to ensure that the project is running within budget and on schedule as well as troubleshoot issues and provide solutions when emergencies arise.

The job of a line producer is very extensive and in Nevada, we have experienced line producers who have worked with all production types, big and small.
