What Is A Pickup Shot?
A pickup shot, or simply a pickup, is a minor shot filmed or recorded after principal photography has ended. There are a variety of reasons for pickups, and productions often account for at least a few days for pickups.
On large productions, it is not uncommon for pickup days to be planned for scenes that do not include the main cast as a way of gathering additional footage for the final production, although they may include using extras or stand-ins.
Pickups are also used to correct continuity errors or other logistical problems such as missing shots or even unusable and corrupt files.
Pickups may also be required to improve the quality of recording. Other times, the director may want to experiment with other ways of telling parts of a story.
