What Is A Wrap Party?

“Wrap” is a phrase used to indicate the end of filming, and it is a tradition for a wrap party to be held after principal photography has been completed and the project is ready to go into post-production.

The production coordinator and production manager are typically responsible for coordinating and hosting the wrap party, however, production coordinators bear most of the responsibility. Production coordinators draft the initial invitation list that includes crew, cast, and other individuals listed in the credits. Together with the production manager, the production coordinator works on creating a budget for the wrap party and finalizing the invitation list (adding spouse and guest invitations if the budget allows for it).

Production coordinators and production managers must be very organized and detail-oriented when creating the budget for the wrap party as the goal is to host an exceptional party while staying within a reasonable budget. Other major party considerations include locating and reserving a venue, obtaining proper insurance and licenses, creating and sending invitations, making arrangements for food and catering, and hiring bartenders, entertainment and other party staff.

Wrap parties also provide a great opportunity for crew and cast members to network and potentially set up future work for themselves.
