Whirlwind Heat is a three-piece band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. The band is often categorized as indie rock although they do hop around from genre to genre. Whirlwind Heat consists of synthesizer-player/vocalist David James Swanson, bassist Steve Damstra, and drummer Brad Holland who were all 16 years old when the band was formed in 1996.

On April 24, 2006, they released their second full-length album Types of Wood in the UK and filmed a music video for each of the album’s tracks. There are 11 tracks on the album, including “Reagan.”

Actor, filmmaker, and author Matthew Gray Gubler from Las Vegas, NV wrote, directed, and produced the music video for the song “Reagan.” It was filmed at Sandy Valley Ranch, which belongs to Gubler’s mother Marilyn (source). Gubler also cast his younger brother in the music video as a fourth member of the band.
