Written by Roger Greenaway and Roger Cook, “Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart” was originally recorded by British pop duo David and Jonathan, and then by American singer Gene Pitney in 1967. Gene’s version reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1967, and the song continued to be covered by many other artists worldwide.

The song achieved its greatest success in 1988 when it was covered by English singer Marc Almond. When Gene heard Marc’s version, he offered to collaborate with him on a duet version. Marc and Gene’s version became a number one single in the UK for four weeks at the start of the year 1989.

The music video for “Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart” by Marc and Gene was filmed on location in Las Vegas, NV. The pair never actually met when they recorded their duet, so they ended up meeting each other for the first time at the Neon Boneyard in Las Vegas.
