“Space Lord” is a 1998 single by American rock band Monster Magnet from their fourth studio album Powertrip. The group was founded in New Jersey by Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar), John McBain (guitar) and Tim Cronin (vocals and drums). Their song “Space Lord” helped bring them mainstream success and was used in the film Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
Wyndorf wrote the record in Las Vegas, NV and wanted to make his music video in Las Vegas. The band’s only stipulation was that they wanted the video to look like a rap video. The director of the “Space Lord” music video, Joseph Kahn, had just directed a Mase video two weeks prior and, unbeknownst to Wyndorf, ended up using the same set as Mase’s “Feel So Good” music video at the Plaza Hotel & Casino in Downtown Las Vegas (source).
Fun Fact: The light bulb suit that Wyndorf wore in the “Space Lord” music video used to be on display at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. See it here.
