What Does A Digital Imaging Technician Do?

The primary role of a Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) is to ensure that the Director of Photography (DP) is supported in their vision through image quality control and image enhancement. They do this by optimizing and maintaining camera settings for the DP’s favored color grading and exposure throughout filming as well as providing real-time quality control of the footage captured.

DITs are also responsible for on-set media management such as securing multiple backups of camera data, transcoding dailies, creating logs and reports, sending data to appropriate departments for post-production editing, and managing a production’s workflow.

Having an experienced DIT as part of your team helps bridge the gap between set and post and improve the efficiency of creating a production. If you would like to learn more about what DITs do, read 7 Expert Digital Imaging Technicians (DITs) Discuss their Role on a Film Set.
