Released in 1990 and directed by Rob Reiner, Misery stars James Caan as successful novelist Paul Sheldon and Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes, Paul’s number one fan. Fun Fact: Kathy Bates won the 1990 Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Misery. Stephen King enjoyed her performance so much that he wrote Dolores Claiborne with Bates in mind for the main character (source).

Nevada Filming Locations

Misery was partially filmed in Nevada’s oldest town Genoa, which stood in for Silver Creek, CO. The crew built four buildings on Genoa’s main boulevard – a cafe, radiator shop, sheriff’s station, and a general store (source). The production also filmed at Nevada’s oldest thirst parlor, the Genoa Bar and Saloon (source).

Some scenes were also filmed on Old U.S. 50 (Clear Creek Road) in Carson City, NV (source).
