What Does A Digital Compositor Do?
In the world of VFX, the last role at the end of the production process is digital compositing. Digital compositors are responsible for taking a variety of computer generated (CG) / mixed media elements and seamlessly integrating them into live-action footage to create a scene that looks as real and as natural as possible.
As with every other role in the film industry, digital compositing requires a high level of skill and attention to detail. The materials used to create a whole scene can include anything from rendered animation sequences, special effects, 2D graphics, green screen elements, live action footage, and more.
Due to the variety of sources, digital compositors must take great care in ensuring consistency and continuity in lighting, color matching, how objects occupy 3D space and can realistically interact with each other within the same setting, how natural elements like wind, water or snow can affect the way hair or clothing looks and moves, and so much more.
Take a look at how digital compositing works and how the most skilled compositors can convince you that a scene you’re watching is full of real objects filmed in real time.
