Officially known as Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, Mt. Rose Ski Resort has been used in many commercials and is the go-to place for serious skiers and winter sports enthusiasts who are in the Reno-Tahoe area. With an average annual snowfall of 350 inches (30 feet), Mt. Rose Ski Resort offers great powder skiing and better snow quality than other Tahoe ski resorts thanks to it having Lake Tahoe’s highest base elevation that starts at 8,260 feet. It is also the only ski resort with a 360 degree view into Nevada’s Truckee Meadows and Lake Tahoe (source).
This past summer (2018), Mt. Rose Ski Resort invested more than $2 million in upgrades to improve its mountain facilities, parking lots, snowmaking towers, and restrooms. The ski resort also added 4 new state-of-the-art LED lift signs as well as new and improved technology to its snow grooming fleet.
While there is no on-mountain lodging, there are many affordable options nearby for your cast and crew. Reno is only about 25 minutes away, but there are many other choices for accommodations that are even closer and located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, such as Incline Village (10 minutes away).
Fun Fact: Mt. Rose Ski Resort is actually not on Mount Rose; instead, it is on the slopes of Slide Mountain, which is on the other side of Nevada State Route 431.
Other features of the Mt. Rose Ski Resort include:
- 9,700′ summit elevation
- 1,200+ acres of skiing
- 1,800′ vertical drop
- 60+ trails (2.5 miles is the longest run)
- 2 “Six Pack” high-speed, detachable chairs
- 2 Quad chairs (fixed grip)
- 2 Triple chairs (fixed grip)
- 2 Surface Lifts: Magic Dual Conveyor & Little Mule (for children in Rosebuds classes only)
