Located just south of the Truckee River in downtown Reno, NV, the National Automobile Museum features an extensive collection of historic automobiles. Also referred to as The Harrah Collection, most of the automobiles are from the late hotel-casino owner William “Bill” Harrah’s world famous collection.
Harrah had collected approximately 1,450 cars that he stored in several warehouses in Sparks, NV. He opened his collection to the public and it became known as the world’s largest collection of classic and collector automobiles. After Harrah passed away in 1978, Holiday Inns acquired his hotel-casino company as well as his car collection. Holiday Inns announced just a few short years later that they would sell his collection of automobiles and immediately ran into opposition.
Ultimately, the National Automobile Museum was constructed and Holiday Inns donated 175 of Harrah’s cars to the museum. Other private donors contributed an additional 60 vehicles, and the museum opened in 1989.
Ranked as one of the top ten automobile museums in the nation by Car Collector magazine and one of the top sixteen automobile museums in the world by Autoweek, the National Automobile Museum offers a unique setting to film scenes for your next production at.
With hundreds of conversation pieces on display throughout the museum, including cars that were owned by celebrities or used in movies, the National Automobile Museum can be a meeting place for two characters to have a deep conversation about American history. Alternatively, one of its valuable antique or celebrity cars can also be incorporated into the storyline. The possibilities are endless with the world renowned National Automobile Museum!
