The Stanley Cup playoffs may be over, but the sense of pride that the Vegas Golden Knights team has brought to the local Las Vegas community has been tremendous and will always be remembered. As much support the Golden Knights gave to local families and programs, the support was returned to the team tenfold.
It was around this time last year on June 21, 2017 that the city of Las Vegas selected many of the players in the NHL expansion draft who would go on to help the Vegas Golden Knights to the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals.
The sheer number of records that the team broke during their inaugural season has been astounding, and during the 2018 Annual NHL Awards Show (hosted at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas), the Golden Knights ended up winning 4 out of the 14 awards handed out.
One of the ways in which the Vegas Golden Knights contributes to the sense of community is by offering local entertainers and artists opportunities to create elevated fan experiences through hype videos, performances, and custom merchandise.
Jonny Greco, the team’s Vice President of Entertainment and Production, graduated with a film degree 20 years ago and he now helps build stories and memorable experiences for pre-game, in-game, and post-game entertainment.
When searching for a goal song to play every time the Golden Knights scored, they landed on “Vegas Lights” by Panic! at the Disco, a rock band formed in Las Vegas, NV in 2004.
To celebrate Game 5 of the 2018 Stanley Cup Final between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Washington Capitals, Panic! at the Disco was also asked to give a special pre-game performance at a surprise location. Although the location was revealed only a few hours before the performance, hundreds of fans showed up.
The performance took place at the iconic Bellagio Fountains. Like any shoot on location, the elements were challenging. A little bit of wind while the fountains played caused the sound equipment to get wet, but the band pulled it off and gave a stellar performance of “High Hopes,” the latest single from their newly released album Pray for the Wicked.
