Located just a few hours north of Las Vegas in Lincoln County, NV, Cathedral Gorge State Park offers breathtaking views of a dramatic landscape filled with awe-inspiring cliffs, spires, towers, and columns made of Bentonite clay. Its formations are so uniquely developed via the process of erosion that they offer an alien-like, otherworldly appearance.

In the same spot where a Pliocene lake bed used to exist, there are extremely narrow slot canyons known locally as “caves.” Visitors can explore and crawl through tunnels that reveal hidden chambers in the network of canyons, and scenic walking trails can be found throughout the park.

During the 1920s, Shakespearean performers used to use Cathedral Gorge as a backdrop for open-air performances (“vaudevilles”), and it became one of the four original Nevada state parks created in 1935, thanks in part to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC also helped construct the original picnicking facilities in the 1930s, including several campgrounds and a stone water tower (which is no longer in use).

The 1600+ acre park also offers a 22-site campground with a table, grill, and ramada at each site. Flushing restrooms, showers, running water, and electric hook-ups are available as well.
