Location Spotlight: Wingfield Park

Located in downtown Reno, Wingfield Park is comprised of five smaller parks:

  • Bicentennial Park (North of the Truckee River)
  • Barbara Bennett Park (South of the Truckee River)
  • Brick Park / West Street Plaza
  • Wingfield Park (East Island)
  • Wingfield Park (West Island)

Within these parks are picnic and barbeque areas, basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds, pathways for walking and biking, an outdoor amphitheater, and the Truckee River Whitewater Park.

The Truckee River Whitewater Park is the centerpiece of Wingfield Park. It is free to the public and open year-round for kayaking, tubing, canoeing, and whitewater rafting. It offers 11 drop pools that provide channels for freestyle kayaking and slalom racing.

For a brief glimpse at the beauty of Wingfield Park, the following clips were filmed in the early morning hours on a February day just a few short years ago in 2015.

Wingfield Park Filmography

Wingfield Park was one of the settings used to host an adventure challenge for The Nevada Passage.

The Nevada Passage is a multi-sport competition that first took place from May 19-24, 2005. Conceived and sponsored by the Nevada Commission on Tourism, it was produced as a one-hour adventure reality television show for U.S. syndication and ran for at least three seasons, reaching approximately 5.4 million television viewers. Teams competed against each other in a variety of athletic challenges, such as rock climbing, jet skiing, four-wheeling, kayaking, and more, as they traveled throughout Nevada and experienced the state’s diverse landscape.
