“Why Do Fools Fall In Love” is a song originally released in January 1956 by early rock and roll group Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers. The Teenagers is known for being rock’s first all-teenage act, and Frankie was only 13 years old when the hit song was recorded. “Why Do Fools Fall In Love” reached No. 1 on the R&B Chart and No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in July.

“Why Do Fools Fall In Love” was such a success that many other bands and singers released their own versions of the song as a single (The Diamonds, Gale Storm, Gloria Mann, Alma Cogan, The Happenings, Ponderosa Twins Plus One, and Joni Mitchell). Even more artists released cover versions, including Diana Ross.

Diana called the song one of her favorites and credits Frankie’s recording of “Why Do Fools Fall In Love” as the song that prompted her career (source).

As a tribute, Diana did a remake of the song accompanied by a music video of her singing as she danced down Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. It was released as her debut single for RCA Records on September 25, 1981.
