The Importance of Writing A Good Resume

Ask a successful coach what it takes to put together a winning team and most will tell you that you first need to understand and evaluate your players. What skills do they have? What are their strengths and capabilities? What talents do they possess? What kind of experience do they have? By recognizing their qualifications and abilities, a coach can evaluate their strengths and build a winning team.

Legendary Green Bay Packer coach Vince Lombardi once said that “the achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual. People who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society. Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”

The same method applies for those seeking to work on a production or feature film that is planning to shoot in Nevada. When a production comes to town they want to assemble a winning crew so the people doing the hiring need to evaluate the strengths, skills, talents and experience of individuals. Therefore, having an updated, current and professional resume ready to go is a very important component of the hiring process.

Uuuuggggg! I can already hear the collective moaning of the masses. “Write a resume! No way! Resumes are old fashioned, obsolete and haven’t been relevant since Friends was must see TV on NBC.” Besides I rely mostly on “word of mouth,” referrals from friends and I’m already connected to a potential production through LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, IMBD and all those new Apps and social media platforms that allow me to communicate to millions in a matter of seconds.”

Well that may be true and we understand that referrals, recommendations, word of mouth and certainly the power of social media are a part of the process but you still need to go “old school” with a resume that showcases your talents, experience and abilities.

On a daily basis, our office interacts with numerous productions, producers, UPM’s, location and production managers and almost all say that the best way for them to learn about you, even with a referral or lots of credits on IMBD, is with a current up to date resume ready to send to their waiting “ready to hire you” hands.

With that in mind, here are some links that might help you put together a winning resume sure impress potential productions looking to hire so you may be a part of a winning crew.
